EXTRACTOR ASSEMBLY

(FOR PROJECTILE, 155 MM: M712 CANNON LAUNCHED
GUIDED PROJECTILE AND M823 TRAINING PROJECTILE)
The extractor assembly is the only authorized piece of
equipment to be used to remove a rammed M712 projectile or
M823 training projectile from the Self Propelled M109A1, M109A2,
M109A3, M198 Towed, or M114A2 howitzer. The extractor assem-
bly IS extended and then inserted into the breech of the howitzer
where it engages the base of the projectile. The ratchet is turned
and the projectile is pulled free of the forcing cone and can be removed.
